Founders of SITE

Dr. Hugo A. Martinez
Dr. Hugo A. Martinez
FOUNDER

Dr. Hugo Martinez was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina and grew up in a Christian home. His plan, as a teenager, was to become a brain surgeon, but God called him into the ministry instead. In 1972, when he was only 17 years old, he became the youth pastor of the largest Assemblies of God church in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. From that point on, he served the Lord together with his girlfriend at the time, María Eugenia, who later became his wife.

In 1975 he carried out pastoral work together with his wife, and as a result of the vision God had given him, they planted and pastored several churches.

Dr. Martinez was an educator and international speaker, devoted to the training of pastors and leaders in Latin America.

Among his many functions, he was National President of the Assemblies of God in Argentina. He also served as Representative of the Evangelical Christian churches before the Argentine Government, and he served in several positions as representative of the Christian community at a national level

He excelled as professor and director of several institutions: Instituto Bíblico Río de la Plata de las Asambleas de Dios; Instituto de Superación Ministerial, and for the Assemblies of God Christian Education Services for Latin America.

He was the Founding Director of Instituto de Educación Teológica por Extensión (IETE) in Argentina. He was co-founder of the MOD.E.L.O. Educational Program of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in California, U.S.A.

He and his wife founded Hope International Seminary of Theology in the United States, with extensive experience in distance learning programs since 1989. He was President of World Hope Ministry.

He wrote the book “Teología Pastoral: como ser un obrero aprobado” (edited by Editorial Vida) as well as co-writing with his wife all the textbooks for the Bachelor Level Program at Hope International Seminary of Theology.

On August 29, 2010, he went to be with the Lord at the age of 56. As an educator, pastor, and spiritual father to many, he was a source of great influence and inspiration wherever the Lord allowed him to minister.

His wife Maria Eugenia and their children continue to carry out the work of the ministry that was first pioneered by Dr. Hugo A. Martínez.

History of SITE

Hope International Seminary of Theology

Every story has a beginning; every dream a hope; every project a goal. Often, God’s dreams and visions take years to be fulfilled. During the 80’s, Dr. Hugo A. Martinez, as a leader in Christian Education at a national level in his native country of Argentina and Latin America, being involved at every level in the training of workers and pastors, felt in his heart the desire to meet the need of: the training of workers and pastors who weren’t able, for different reasons, to attend a conventional Bible institute; whether by living on campus or commuting. .

While studying for the degree of Science of Education at the university in 1974, Dr. Hugo A. Martinez conducted a research project on Distance Education at a worldwide level. Through his research, he looked into the Distance Education Program being carried out at the University of Barcelona in Spain; this moved him to want to make these programs available for the work of God. So, linking this knowledge to the existing need in the work of the Lord, Dr. Hugo A. Martinez together with his wife Dr. Maria Eugenia Martinez, who had also studied at a secular level, in 1989 founded the Institute of Theological Education by Extension, a distance program in Argentina, which enrolled more than sixteen thousand students during twelve years.

This same program of study, updated for the 21st century, was founded by Drs. Hugo and Maria Eugenia Martinez in the US in the year 2001 in the State of Florida, under the name Hope International Seminary of Theology, later transferring their ministry to California. Hope International Seminary of Theology was approved in 2005 as a Formal Bible Institute by the Department of Christian Education of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

In June 2007 Hope International Seminary of Theology was approved to grant the following religious vocational titles and degrees:

  • Diploma In Practical Ministry Theology
